The purpose of this course is to facilitate the work of the designer/builder of earthen ponds in terms of the choice, sizing and justification of the solutions adopted and, to a certain extent, indirectly homogenize the criteria. The content should in no case be taken as “normative” but as “compiling and orienting”, making available, in a clear and concise way, a selection of procedures and solutions that at the present time are considered to be the most suitable.
Most of the literature is oriented to dams, and from them a good match can be obtained for ponds. But ponds, as will be seen in the course, are – with some exceptions – substantially different from dams; for this reason it is considered very important to have specific training for them.
