Don&#8217;t worry, if you continue reading today&#8217;s blog post you will discover a very simple way to automate your tasks in QGIS and be able to run a multitude of processes in a single step. <\/p>\n<h2>What is QGIS?<\/h2>\n<p>On numerous occasions we have to face a multitude of operations with Geographic Information Systems and it ends up being a tedious job in which we handle a large number of layers in a repetitive and slow way. The solution to this problem is very simple and today we explain it to you so that you can forget about this repetitiveness and save time. <\/p>\n<p>This is the <strong>QGIS graphic modeler<\/strong>, a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.civile.es\/2022\/03\/23\/cuando-una-imagen-no-vale-mas-que-mil-palabras-o-numeros\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">tool<\/a> that allows to elaborate more complex processing models from a set of simple operations thanks to the realization of a <strong>chain of processes<\/strong> that can be executed later in a single step through a <strong>simple and very intuitive interface<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_7253\" class=\"thumbnail wp-caption aligncenter\" style=\"width: 340px\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-7253 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.civile.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/IMAGEN1-EMC-1.png\" alt=\"QGIS Graphical Modeler\" width=\"340\" height=\"137\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.civile.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/IMAGEN1-EMC-1.png 340w, https:\/\/www.civile.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/IMAGEN1-EMC-1-300x121.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 340px) 100vw, 340px\" \/><figcaption class=\"caption wp-caption-text\">QGIS Graphical Modeler<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>In the model design procedure, two parts are distinguished; the first one is the definition of the <strong>inputs to the process<\/strong>, in which the type of parameter to be used is chosen, which can be vector layers, raster layers, numbers, tables, etc., and the second one is the definition of the <strong>algorithms<\/strong>, in which the workflow to be executed is established. In this second part, existing algorithms from different sources can be used, such as QGIS geoalgorithms or the modeler&#8217;s own tools, among others. <\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_7261\" class=\"thumbnail wp-caption aligncenter\" style=\"width: 639px\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-7261 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.civile.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/IMAGEN2-EMC-1.png\" alt=\"Modeler inputs and algorithms.\" width=\"639\" height=\"194\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.civile.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/IMAGEN2-EMC-1.png 639w, https:\/\/www.civile.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/IMAGEN2-EMC-1-300x91.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 639px) 100vw, 639px\" \/><figcaption class=\"caption wp-caption-text\">Modeler inputs and algorithms.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<h2>What are the advantages of the modeler?<\/h2>\n<p>One of the advantages offered by the models is that they can be <strong>reused as many times as you want<\/strong>, varying only the data input, so that for each of the inputs you enter, you will obtain different outputs using the same procedure in all of them in a very fast way. In addition, by saving these models, you can modify any part of the process to run it again correctly if you want to change any of the operations or if you have made a mistake in the model. <\/p>\n<p>Another advantage offered by the modeler is that the output of one task can be the input of the next task and thus perform <strong>linked operations<\/strong>, as shown in the following image.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_6535\" class=\"thumbnail wp-caption aligncenter\" style=\"width: 930px\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-6535 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.civile.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/QGIS-3.png\" alt=\"linked task model  \" width=\"930\" height=\"635\"><figcaption class=\"caption wp-caption-text\">Linked task model<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<h2>QGIS model example<\/h2>\n<p>The following is an example of a model based on a series of layers in raster format corresponding to hydrological parameters in a study area, from which we want to obtain the values in a specific area corresponding to a hydrographic basin, which will be a layer in vector format.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_7255\" class=\"thumbnail wp-caption aligncenter\" style=\"width: 856px\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-7255 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.civile.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/IMAGEN4-EMC.png\" alt=\"Example of a model for the calculation of hydrological parameters in a hydrographic basin\" width=\"856\" height=\"674\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.civile.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/IMAGEN4-EMC.png 856w, https:\/\/www.civile.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/IMAGEN4-EMC-300x236.png 300w, https:\/\/www.civile.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/IMAGEN4-EMC-768x605.png 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 856px) 100vw, 856px\" \/><figcaption class=\"caption wp-caption-text\">Example of a model for the calculation of hydrological parameters in a hydrographic basin<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>In this case, the model inputs will be the watershed layer in vector format and the layers in raster format of precipitation for the return periods studied, runoff threshold and torrentiality index, from which we want to obtain the average value in the basin, as well as the digital terrain model in raster format from which we want to obtain the maximum and minimum values.
